Demetres Leonidas

Professor, University of Thessaly

Dr Demetres D. Leonidas is a Chemist with a PhD in Structural Biology. He has worked at the Department of Biology and Biochemistry, University of Bath, United Kingdom, and Harvard Medical School, before returning to Greece as a Researcher at the National Hellenic Research Foundation. In 2009 he joined the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the University of Thessaly, as an Associate Professor and in September 2016 he was elected Professor of Biochemistry at the same Department. He has co-authored more than 100 publications attracting more than 3000 citations (h=30). He is the Director of the Structural and Functional Biochemistry Laboratory (SFBL). The general theme that underlies the work of SFBL is macromolecular structural and functional biochemistry in which protein structures and molecular interactions are used as the starting point for further studies on the mechanisms of catalysis, mechanisms of inhibition, regulation, molecular recognition, and structure-based drug design.
